Meet Abbey

Dr. Abbey Robin Durkin, PhD

Dr. Abbey-Robin Durkin is a book author, founder, and Representative Director of Kintsugi Consulting — a Japan-based international psychology practice serving the Tokyo and Kanto regions and beyond. Sought after by individuals and organizational leaders alike, she partners with adults, children, families, and professionals to cultivate meaningful, lasting change.

Clinical Practice: Dr. Durkin's therapeutic work spans individual adults, children, couples, and families — offering a space for healing, growth, and transformation at every stage of life.

Advisory & Consulting: Her consulting practice serves businesses, governments, military institutions, and educational organizations. She works across all levels — from senior executives and managers to frontline staff — supporting both individual development and organizational health.

Speaking & Thought Leadership: Dr. Durkin is a sought-after keynote speaker on topics spanning trauma, resilience, leadership psychology, and emotional wellbeing.

Affiliations & Partnerships: She is affiliated with the Tokyo Medical Surgical Clinic, specializing in weight management, and the Tokyo Cancer Clinic, specializing in lifestyle medicine. She is a partner of the Effective Storytelling Academy of Japan, advancing emotional literacy for children and families, and a member of the French Chamber of Commerce in Japan.

Veterans Services: Dr. Durkin is an approved provider for U.S. Military Veterans through VES, conducting PTSD disability evaluations.

Background: Before establishing her private practice in Japan, Dr. Durkin served as Chief Psychologist for the Defense Attaché Service — advising and supporting ambassadors, embassy staff, and military attachés at all levels. Her expertise in crisis intervention and trauma recovery is informed by direct clinical work with individuals who have survived extreme trauma, including combat, detention, and noxious media exposure.

Dr. Durkin completed her Ph.D. at the age of twenty-five from Palo Alto University in partnership with Stanford University, specializing in early intervention for traumatic stress. She is a retired U.S. Army Major.

Dr. Durkin sees clients online and in person. Those who meet her in person may find themselves warmly greeted by her emotional support dachshunds, Karaage and Tako — though their presence is entirely optional.
